Furthermore the working population will greatly impact on the countrys economy as well as taking away a great portion of human labour. However, the economic prosperity of African Nations started slowing down as soon as the colonizers started departing. As a result, the government in place saw that in order for economic prosperity to be realized, and then they had to continue with the link between them and former colonial powers. However, the link had been destabilized with African countries attaining independence (Garcia et al, 2003). It was widely viewed that the exit of colonial powers from Africa was beginning of the nation down fall being that they were more experienced in several fields like agriculture and planning. In the various administrative levels of government, Africa leaders were faced with lack of the necessary professionals to run the various sectors. European administrators had been vibrant in realizing that African countries had made a stride towards economic progress. However, independence meant their services were no longer needed, a fact that left the government more vulnerable. Government leaders then had to enlist the help of former colonial powers in giving the training as well as the necessary education needed to operate the government that they had inherited from the colonial masters (Cooper, 2002). The state of democracy in several African countries has never been successful. There have been successful African leaders who have tried to maintain the prosperous leadership of former colonies while others have taken power unto their hands and ruled with animosity resulting in increasing levels of poverty of African states. Leaders of oppositions have tried to enlist the help of former colonies to bring in foreign assistance in terms of persuading the bad leadership out of power. School Uniforms Essay Many schools in the United Sates are at odds over school uniforms. In many cases, when uniforms are imposed students feel that their rights are being taken away (Kelly). That is the main argument against school uniforms. Although there is this disadvantage to school uniforms, there are many advantages. Along with making the students life easier, school uniforms would also provide for a more comfortable atmosphere and help students to focus mainly on their educations. In order to make uniforms acceptable, parents and teachers must work together to show the positive effects that uniforms could have on each students life. Many students feel that with uniforms they will not be recognized as individuals. Students often feel that their wardrobes define who they are as people. Even though school uniforms do take away a persons right to show his or her individuality through clothing, the advantages certainly outweigh the disadvantages in this case. Students would probably be more accepting of the idea of school uniforms if a more casual style of uniform were adopted than a formal traditional style (Kelly). One of the many advantages would be a more stress-free school week for students. For example, students are usually worried about what they will wear the next day. On average, a student usually spends anywhere from thirty minutes to an hour trying to find something to wear the next day. In this amount of time, the student could have spent thirty minutes studying or gone to bed that much earlier. In addition to saving time, there would be less of an acceptance problem between peers because name brands and styles would no longer matter. School uniforms would also provide for better student/teacher relationships. With uniforms, all students would be recognized as equals. Therefore, both teachers and students would get the respect they deserve. With uniforms, there would be less of a division between peers, and cliques would not be as obvious in the student body. With these things in mind, it is probable that discipline problems would drastically decrease (School Uniforms). As an  added advantage, teachers would be able to focus on the more important things than a students dress code violations (Kelly). Lastly, students would no longer focus on each others wardrobes. Most of the time, students worry about everyone but themselves. Oftentimes this results in the less fortunate or more outrageous students being ridiculed. All of this goes back to the student being accepted. As previously stated, all students would be recognized as equals. Students would be more likely to be judged on their accomplishments before anything else, especially style and appearance, could come into play. This would allow students to focus solely on their educations (School Uniforms). In conclusion, schools with uniforms seem to excel academically. The student bodys perspectives change considerably. They are no longer caught up in the material things; they are forced to concentrate on the matters that really matter. Students could attend school with a clear mind every day and focus on their educations and not each other. In the end, uniforms would be a helpful tool to all educational facilities. Recession Despite all the recession talk recently, the economy apparently isn't doing so badly. The Commerce department today (4.27) announced that GDP grew at a 2.0% annual rate in the first quarter. This was up from 1% in the final quarter of 2000. The 2% rate is still slower than this time last year, but it seems as though a recession has been avoided for another quarter. This means that the current expansion has lasted for an even ten years - the trough of the recession in the early 1990's came in March of 1991. Motif Affairs: The Great Gatsby

Throughout the novel The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald uses the motif of affairs to show development in Daisy Buchanan's character. As a reader slowly pieces together what is the love puzzle of this novel, it becomes clear to them Daisy's true self. Starting off the novel Fitzgerald uses Tom's affairs with Daisy(his wife) and Myrtle(his mistress) to show how Tom treats Daisy. He is very sexist towards not only Daisy but also myrtle. â€Å"Daisy loved me when she married me and she loves me now,†(131) this is said by Tom, giving the reader an example of just how controlling he is of his wife.It is evident to the reader, through the lens of feminism, that Tom objectifies women, treating them like objects rather than people, Daisy especially, making him feel it is acceptable to have more than one woman. This gives the reader a sense of sympathy for Daisy, because of the way her husband treats her. It upsets the reader that although Daisy is aware of her husband's affair with Myrtle, s he ‘accepts' it and feels she deserves it because she is a woman and that's simply what women get.As the novel goes on, it is made clear to the reader Daisy's obsession with money. â€Å"Her voice is full of money†¦ That was it. I‘d never understood before. It was full of money – that was the inexhaustible charm that rose and fell in it, the jingle of it, the cymbals‘ song of it†¦ High in a white palace the king‘s daughter, the golden girl†¦ â€Å"(120) We learn of an affair in Daisy's past that she had with Gatsby, and that the only reason she married Tom rather than Gatsby was because of Tom's wealth.When this is brought up it refuels old feelings between the two of them, leading to an affair between Daisy and Gatsby. Readers go from feeling bad for Daisy to almost having sympathy for Tom. After accusing Tom of objectifying Daisy and not being loyal to her, it is made clear that daisy is not loyal to Tom. She is not in love with him, but rather his money. Through these recurring affairs and the lens of feminism Daisy's true character is exposed to the reader.

Alternative Solutions 1) Mallette has many different ideas on how to improve Callaway’s sales.His first option is to leave the MPT program unchanged; as it has been so successful he does not want to jinx it by changing something that could potentially decrease profit for Callaway’s Golf. 2) Callaway Golf does not currently require their mobile performance consultants (MPCs) to be professionally certified. If the MPCs were to be professionally certified, they would not only be able to give a hybrid service of custom fitting, but they would also be authorized to provide official lessons. This would add greater value to the private fitting and consultations if there were to be a private lesson included.Having a professional on site would increase the credibility and effectiveness of the consultations. An inconvenience in this plan is that `to become certified in Canada, an individual must work a minimum of 35 hours per week under a head professional and pass a playing ability test (Jackman, Brett (2008) Callaway Golf Canada. Ivey Cases page 9). 3) Mallette also is considering pairing the MPCs up with professional staff at the club the MPC is working at. This would have the same benefit of having professionally certified MPCs, but there wouldn`t be the one-on-one aspect that many club members enjoy and value.On the contrary, club members may be comforted by having a member of their club`s professional staff present, it may lead the club member to trust Callaway Golf and the MPC more. It would also be beneficial as the club member could consult the club`s staff member if they had any more qu estions after the MPC had left. The inconvenience in this scenario is that Callaway would have to pay the club staff member as well as the MPC. 4) Another option would be to update the equipment that Callaway Golf MPC`s use during their consultations.They currently are using Accusport Vector machines that are in fine working condition, but the newest model has just been launched, the Vector Pro monitor which would be useful for the golf professionals during lessons as it incorporates video swing analysis into the fitting process. This may also add value to the consultations. The downside to this solution is that each monitor would cost $3,500, as well as bringing all 20 MPCs to the head office for a training day at the expense of Callaway Golf. 5) There is currently only one MPC per territory in Canada.There is an average of 30 different accounts in each territory, and Mallette believes that hiring more MPCs would be beneficial in by being able to give more attention to each account . This option would only be realistic if more MPCs were hired, as there are many public clubs across the country and the MPT wouldn’t be as successful if they started neglecting their current accounts.Decision Criteria P rofitability: Choosing to leave the MTP program the same would result in Callaway Golf`s net income for 2008 to slightly decline or slightly increase. There wouldn`t be much change seeing as there was no change to the MTP program. The cause of decrease would come from the possibility of Callaway`s competitors launching a program similar to the MTP, causing Callaway`s to experience fewer sales. The increase could happen if the competitors programs weren`t a success.Changing the hiring requirements for MTCs would result in a loss of time and money in order to train current employees, or hire professionally certified employees and train them to be MTPs. Since having professionally certified employees would add value to the consultations, Callaway could increase their prices. It isn`t clear if this would generate more income in the end result. This solution would benefit only members of private clubs where the consultations are held, and public club members may start opting for cheaper products if Callaway’s increases its prices, which would lead to lower sales.Pairing MTCs with club staff would cost Callaway more in wages expense. It may result in more sales since customers would feel more comfortable with a club staff member, therefore more willing to trust Callaway Golf and buy their product, resulting in more sales. Looking at how much the net income increased after launching the MTP program in private clubs, it seems it would be beneficial to launch the program in public clubs as well. The charisma inspires trust and confidence from followers to the leader and makes the leader seem extraordinary and wise. Kamila is a person whom inspires trust and wisdom as a result other people ask for her advice very often. For example, when some of her friends want to start some new project they usually call her to discuss it and get her opinion. She is always willing to motivate and help others when they need it and she is concerned not only with personal goals but followers as well. As she always tells me, she believes in team work and knows that big things cannot be achieved by a single person. As she often says: When people are together they can achieve anything they want. I personally trust Kamila due to the fact that she will never let down those who trust her and believe in her. Knowing that she is charismatic and the confidence she shows when she talks makes me feel that everything is attainable and that I can follow her in anything she does without asking extra details. Unlike non-charismatic leaders, Kamila can make others willing to work harder to achieve high results by motivating them in various ways (i. e. by telling stories and using strong emotional metaphors). When I pass through some difficulties or problems she begins talking about a similar situation where she was in my position and explaining what she did to overcome it. While talking she is highlighting the points in where I have to act in the same way and she concludes that after any problems people always learn something and become better. While listening to her inspirational words I become positive and forget immediately about any problems. Houses indicators of charisma: House (1977) was another researcher to conduct his own theory of charismatic leadership. Houses research has derived some indicators of charisma which I can easily associate with my charismatic friend. He concluded that followers are willing to obey the charismatic leader because they perceive the leaders beliefs as correct. When we are in a company of common friends discussing or working with Kamila in the same project, I know that her opinion will be the correct one as she inspires confidence to me and other people. That is why I often wait for her opinion and agree with her even if someone else is not. Moreover, I can see that people are getting emotionally involved when she speaks and that they feel affection towards her. People are always willing to listen to Kamila and in most cases they agree with everything she says. Finally, it is worth saying that by inspiring high performance goals to followers, she makes them believe that they can contribute to the success of the mission and they work harder. In contrast to the theory of Conger and Canugo (1987) the extraordinary ability of the leader is not necessary. The Self-Concept theory of charismatic leadership talks about the leaders traits and behaviors. I will now describe them through my personal perspective from my experience with a charismatic leader. Kamila is a person who expresses a high need for power. This does not necessarily mean that she can only exist in the highest level of an organization but it demonstrates a need to control her own future and to be able to make her own choices. As she described to me, in order to do something which is not led by her she must be motivated and inspired, otherwise she is not willing to work hard. Kamila possesses a strong conviction in her own beliefs and ideals and this makes her confident that she can achieve everything she wants to. According to what she once told me, her core motivation in life is to make her name famous to the world. This is the main reason why she is currently doing many things at the same time (involvement in several societies at university and organizing charity events with me and other team members apart from studies). As she often says: The easiest thing in university is to study only and not be doing anything to prove your abilities to the world. The above statements made me conclude that achievement and recognition are Kamilas primary sources of motivation. Lastly, I can say that Kamila exerted some sort of influence on me; which is the reason why we work with a common mission and why I got inspired to improve myself and do something that the world can be proud of me. I will now move on and describe how leaders influence followers.
